Heritage Middle School Counseling Program

The vision of the Heritage Middle School Counseling Program is for all of our students to develop and maintain a passion for life-long learning, to value academics and social emotional well-being, and to be well-prepared for their future.

Our vision is based on the following beliefs:

1. Heritage Middle School Counselors believe that all students can learn and achieve academic growth when encouraged and nurtured in a safe, secure, and respectful environment.

2. Heritage Middle School Counselors recognize that each individual has unique developmental needs which can be addressed by building positive relationships with the student, collaborating with school staff, working with the student’s parent(s)/guardian(s), and utilizing district resources.

3. Heritage Middle School Counselors believe that our role as school counselors is to advocate for every student through leadership, advocacy, and collaboration as we promote and support equity and access to rigorous educational experiences for all students.

4. Heritage Middle School Counselors understand that the HMS Counseling Program is driven by data, will respect the diversity of our students, and will be designed to meet the needs of our students through our guidance curriculum, individual student planning, responsive services, and system support.

5. Heritage Middle School Counselors promote an understanding of self-awareness, self-management, social awareness, relationship skills, and responsible decision-making.

6. Heritage Middle School Counselors are committed to growing professionally as we embrace, display, and utilize The American School Counselor Association’s Professional Standards & Competencies, the ASCA Ethical Standards for School Counselors, and the ASCA Mindsets & Behaviors for Student Success Standards to help guide and evaluate our work as school counselors.

The mission of the Heritage Middle School Counseling Program is to ensure that today’s learners are equipped and empowered for tomorrow’s opportunities—academically, emotionally and socially. The students at Heritage Middle School participate in a rigorous curriculum which well-prepares them for high school, college, and careers. Our comprehensive school counseling program supports all students and fosters partnerships between students, staff, families, and community members in order to eliminate the achievement gap and best equip our students to achieve their fullest potential academically, socially and emotionally in our global society.
