Frequently Asked Questions
With the beginning of every new adventure comes an abundance of questions. With it being soccer season in GCISD, there are a lot being asked and we would like to answer some of the most common ones we receive. If you have a question not on this list, please give us a call or send us an email and we will get that answer to you!
When does soccer start?
Tryout dates will be announced soon. They usually take place the end of March or beginning on April. (please see the coaches for more information)
Do I have to be in Athletics to play?
No, soccer is open school-wide to any 7th and 8th grader wishing to participate.
Can 6th graders play?
No, it is restricted to 7th and 8th grade only by UIL rules.
Do I have to have experience?
No, it is not required, however, there is a tryout and many experienced players.
When are the tryouts?
There will be an overall assessment of skills that all participants will be put through during the first practice. They will take place as long as necessary.
Is it true that the teams are co-ed and made up of both boys and girls?
No. There are two completely separate teams. There will be one boys team made up of both 7th and 8th grade boys combined. There will be one girls team made up of both 7th and 8th grade girls combined.
When are the practices?
All practices are after school from 3:45-4:45/5:15. Practices are typically only twice a week. Specific days will be announced with tryouts.
When are the games?
Refer to the schedules page for game times. All efforts will be made to stay on schedule as much as possible.
Where are the games?
All games will be played at district middle schools. Please refer to the schedule page for game location information.
How long are the games?
Games are two 25-minute halves.
What do I need for soccer?
A great attitude, willingness to work hard, team player mentality, good grades, good health, and a dedication to the program (including practices and competitions).
Equipment wise you will need to have shin guards, soccer socks, royal blue/black shorts (must meet school guidelines), and preferably soccer cleats (although not required).
How much will I get to play?
Playing time cannot be guaranteed for any student. We do our best to allow everyone the most opportunity possible.
Is there just one team?
No, there is both an "A" and a "B" team. The competitive squad of the "A" team does have a limited number of positions available and will be decided by a tryout. "B" team rosters are not limited, but please keep in mind that playing time will not be equal and is difficult with large numbers in a game such as soccer.
