What an inspiring day at the HMS AVID Showcase! We were thrilled to welcome our campus visitors today, giving them an up-close look at the incredible learning environment we've cultivated at Heritage Middle School. The highlight of the day was seeing our students in action, effortlessly implementing the WICOR (Writing, Inquiry, Collaboration, Organization, and Reading) strategies that are the foundation of college and career readiness in every classroom.
During the classroom walkthroughs, our guests saw WICOR in full effect. Students were actively processing their notes to identify areas of confusion and plan their next steps in learning. They sharpened their teamwork skills while participating in collaborative study groups and practiced leadership by leading tutorials, articulating where they needed help and responding to peers. Furthermore, our visitors observed high-level communication and critical thinking as students engaged in lively discussions through philosophical chairs and Socratic seminars.
The dedication to excellence demonstrated today is why HMS has proudly been an AVID National Demonstration School since 2020. We are committed to fostering this level of rigor and support every day for every student, ensuring continuous growth and preparing them for success in a global society.
