9/11 Tribute
Former Heritage Middle School students and one of their teachers returned to the campus on Friday, September 9 for a very special “After 20 Years” tribute to commemorate 9/11. Watch the news coverage from WFAA. They were joined by local dignitaries, first responders as well as current students and staff.
The returning students were in seventh grade when the 9/11 attacks occurred in New York City. Under the guidance of their then-English teacher Patt Walker, the students expressed their feelings by writing heartwarming essays, which were read during a schoolwide ceremony on October 11, 2001—one month after the Twin Towers were destroyed. That same year, the students and Ms. Walker agreed to return to the school 20 years later to read their essays once again, but planning in 2021 was put on hold due to COVID-19 pandemic. The ceremony replicated the event held 20+ years ago honoring the victims and heroes of 9/11.
